What you get

Microsoft prices its 365 business plans for verified nonprofits at steep discounts — marketed as up to 75% off — and unlike the old grant licenses, discounted seats can go to everyone including volunteers and temporary staff. Most of the free donated cloud grants were retired in mid-2025, so plan around the discounted tiers. Any donated licenses you do hold must stay at 85% active usage.

How to redeem

  1. Check Microsoft's eligibility page — schools, government agencies, and most hospitals are out, but rural and safety-net health providers are specifically allowed.
  2. Register your organization at microsoft.com/nonprofits and complete the eligibility attestation.
  3. Choose grant or discounted plans in the Microsoft 365 admin center once approved.
  4. Assign seats: grant licenses only to paid staff and unpaid executives; discounted licenses to anyone, volunteers included.
